Filling Prescriptions

New Prescriptions

You must activate all new or renewed prescriptions before the pharmacy will fill them. Seymour Johnson AFB pharmacy no longer offers phone call activation service for new prescriptions or renewals

You must activate new or renewed prescriptions by:

  • Texting the Q-Anywhere service
    • Q-Anywhere activations will be ready by the next duty day after 11 a.m.
  • Pulling a ticket at the pharmacy kiosk.
    • If you are activating a prescription at the pharmacy, all tickets created after 3:30 p.m. will be ready the next duty day after 11 a.m. The pharmacy makes exceptions for urgent medications such as antibiotics.
  • Using the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal
  • Dropping off a hard-copy prescription
    • If you have a hard-copy prescription, you need to bring it to the pharmacy or drop it off in the red pharmacy drop box located outside the clinic entrance. Hard-copy prescriptions will be available for pick up the next duty day after 11 a.m.

Q-Anywhere is a remote pharmacy check-in option. It helps you save time at the pharmacy. You can activate your prescription and request refills with a simple text message from your phone.

Q-Anywhere Prescription Activation Steps:

Step 1: Scan the QR code with your smart phone camera or text “Get in line” to 833-338-1731.
Step 2: Select the secure weblink to start your medication request.
Step 3: Select your pharmacy.
Step 4: Enter the PATIENT’S DOD ID # and any additional patients if needed.
Step 5: Select the pickup location.
Step 6: Tell us what you need.
Step 7: Keep the webpage open for notifications and wait for a “ready” text to pick up your meds at your requested location as directed.
Step 8: Please allow two duty days to process your request. If using the ScriptCenter, “ready” medications will be available the next duty day at 11 a.m.

Refills

You can request refills by:

  • Calling 984-355-8583
    • Select option #1 to pick up your prescription at the ScriptCenter. The pharmacy will process your refill and it will be available the following duty day. Please be aware that you can’t pick up refrigerated items or controlled substances at the ScriptCenter.
    • Select option #2 to pick up your prescription at the pharmacy. Refills will be ready on the third duty day.
  • Texting the Q-Anywhere service
  • Using the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal

Refills will be ready on the third duty day.

We’re pleased to provide pharmacy services to all our patients. You can fill prescriptions at no cost from Seymour Johnson Pharmacy. If you have a prescription from a TRICARE network or non-network doctor, you may fill it here, if it’s available on our Basic Core Formulary.

Please use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool to see if your drug is available. We provide up to a 90-day supply for most drugs.

The pharmacy provides comprehensive pharmaceutical services to all eligible beneficiaries. A pharmacist is available to provide medication counseling upon request.

Due to local policy, the pharmacy cannot accept prescriptions by phone or fax. We do accept electronic prescriptions, including those for controlled drugs.

Our Military Pharmacy Services

Maintenance Drugs

Maintenance drugs are those you take regularly for a chronic condition (for example drugs to control blood pressure or cholesterol). All beneficiaries must refill certain maintenance drugs through home delivery or at military pharmacies. This does not apply to active duty service members.

Transferring Prescriptions

If you have prescriptions at a TRICARE network pharmacy, you may transfer your prescriptions to our military pharmacy. Call the Express Scripts Member Choice Center at 1-877-882-3335 to learn more about prescription transfers.

To transfer a prescription to Seymour Johnson, simply bring your bottles to the pharmacy before running out of medication. We will contact your previous pharmacy to transfer your prescription.

Basic Core Formulary

All military pharmacies have a Basic Core Formulary. The Basic Core Formulary is a list of drugs that are available at all full-service military pharmacies.

Basic Core Formulary Search Tool

Use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool to see if your drug is available at your military pharmacy. A search can tell you:

  • Formulary status (generic drug, brand-name drug, non-formulary drug, non-covered drug)
  • Alternative drugs

To start your search, you’ll need to enter the brand or generic name of the drug.

Prescription Pick-up

You have the option to either wait for your prescription to be filled or drop it off and pick it up later.
The Seymour Johnson Pharmacy offers two prescription pickup locations.

  • Option 1: ScriptCenter is an innovative option that enables patients to avoid long pick-up lines. ScriptCenter is an easy way to pick up both new prescriptions and refills. The ScriptCenter is located at the base exchange mall and offers patients prescription pick-up during the base exchange mall hours.
  • Option 2: You can also pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy inside the Thomas Koritz Clinic (Main Pharmacy).

Other Pharmacy Options

As a TRICARE beneficiary, you have other pharmacy options:

Prescription Costs

While there are no costs for prescriptions here at Seymour Johnson AFB, there are costs for filling prescriptions via home delivery or at network pharmacies for all non-active duty beneficiaries. Visit Pharmacy Costs to learn more.

Active Duty service members have a $0 copayment for covered drugs at any pharmacy.

TRICARE Formulary

The TRICARE Formulary is a list of generic and brand-name prescription drugs covered by TRICARE. You can search the TRICARE Formulary to:

  • See how much your prescription costs and where you can get it filled.
  • See if your prescription needs prior authorization.
  • Look up the medical necessity criteria.
  • Get the prior authorization and medical necessity forms for your prescription.

e-Prescribing

What is Electronic Prescribing?

Electronic prescribing allows civilian doctors to send prescriptions electronically to our pharmacy. Did you know you can get your prescriptions from civilian doctors filled at our pharmacy, even if you are not enrolled to this facility? You can fill prescriptions from doctors outside of this facility, for free, if the prescription is available on the Basic Core Formulary.

Why should I e-Prescribe?

It’s Safe and Efficient

e-Prescribing is the best way to keep your personal health information safe. e-Prescriptions are transmitted securely from your doctor’s office to the pharmacy. When you choose e-Prescriptions you can reduce:

  • The chance of transcription errors
  • The chance of losing your prescription
  • The need for doctor clarification.

Convenient and Cost Saving

You can save time when you use e-Prescriptions. You can also take advantage of no copayment when you pick up your prescription from your military pharmacy.

How can I choose e-Prescribing?

It’s easy. Start by giving your provider the following pharmacy information:

Name: DOD Seymour Johnson EPHCY
NPI: 1811305477
ZIP Code: 27531

Drug Safety

Do you have unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs at home? It’s important to know how to safely dispose of them. Practicing good drug disposal habits protects you, your family, and your community.

Follow the proper procedures to prevent accidental prescription misuse and abuse, while also reducing chemicals that go into our water systems and environment. Did you know Seymour Johnson AFB makes it easy to dispose of your unwanted, unused, and/or expired prescription drugs with our Drug Take Back program?

Drug Take Back

Seymour Johnson offers a secure bin where you can drop your unwanted drugs onsite.

  • You can dispose of non-sharp items in the blue MedSafe bin located inside the pharmacy lobby.
  • You can dispose of sharps/needles in the red sharps bin also located inside the pharmacy lobby.

We strive to make it easy for you and your family to handle prescriptions properly.
To see how to dispose of items not allowed through the Drug Take Back program, visit the Environmental Protection Agency Website.
